About ADC       

The 10th Asia Pacific Drying Conference (ADC) will be held in Vadodara, India during December 14-17, 2019. The ADC series of biennial conferences was established in 1997 by Prof. A. Kamaruddin of Bogor University, Indonesia and Prof. Arun S. Mujumdar of McGill University, Canada. It is modelled after the widely acclaimed biennial International Drying Symposium Series (IDS) which was initiated in 1978. The conference venue has since moved to several countries including China (2 times), Malaysia (2 times), India, Thailand, Hong Kong etc.

The 10th ADC in 2019 plans to bring together more than 300 stakeholders, from research organizations, academic institutions, non-governmental organizations, industries and professional associations, in a single platform for exchange and dissemination of ideas and recent research findings on fundamentals and applications of drying. The conference is being organized by National Institute of Technology Rourkela, India with major support from diverse industries in Gujarat and other states in India.

About 9th ADC   

The ninth Asia-Pacific Drying Conference (ADC 2017) was successfully organized by Jiangnan University, Wuxi, P.R. China during September 24-26, 2017. The Chairman of the ADC 2017 was Professor Min Zhang of State Key Laboratory of Food Science and Technology, Jiangnan University, China. The conference was inaugurated in the presence of Professor Arun S. Mujumdar, the Founder and Honorary Chairman of the International Drying Symposium (IDS) and Co-founder of the ADC series; Professor Wei Chen, the Vice President of Jiangnan University; and Dr. Xin Xu from China Rural Technology Development Center, Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China. The Conference attracted 207 abstracts from over 250 registered delegates, both from academia and industry, from 22 countries. The conference was supported by 12 leading drying industries in China. The success of ADC 2017 was indeed due to the significant tangible contribution of industry in China.

The name of Professor Arun S Mujumdar is synonymous with Drying R&D on a truly global scale. Author of over 540 peer-reviewed journal articles, over 200 book chapters, author of three books and editor of over 60 -including a handbook and an archival journal,  mentor of over 65 PhD students, keynote and plenary speaker at scores of international conferences etc, winner of numerous international awards for his distinguished contributions in multi-disciplinary fields, Prof. Mujumdar has had a passion for engineering research, industrial R&D, creativity and innovation even from his graduate student days.


Prof. Mujumdar holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from McGill University, Canada and Doctor Honoris Causafrom Lodz Technical University, Poland and University of Lyon, France. He is Professor of Mechanical Engineering at a truly global university in Singapore- National University of Singapore (NUS), following a long tenure as Professor of Chemical Engineering at McGill University, Canada. He is a Platinum Award winner of his alma mater, the Institute of Chemical Technology (formerly known as UDCT), Mumbai, India. He holds Honorary professorships in several universities. His research areas are in transport phenomena, thermal management of fuel cells and battery stacks, energy systems, dewatering and drying and drying processes in diverse industries including foods, products of biological origin, minerals, sludge etc.
